As part of my commitment to unifying the community and amplifying every voice, I support modernizing how we engage with listening sessions to ensure every resident has a seat at the table, regardless of their schedule or physical location.Live Streaming & Virtual Access: I would vote in favor of live streaming listening sessions and providing reliable call-in or remote options for community members unable to attend in person.Flexible Voice & Complete Privacy Options: Respecting personal comfort levels by offering clear choices: community members can participate while also being able to opt out of being recorded on camera while still sharing their voice, or opting out entirely from public broadcasting elements while ensuring their feedback is still heard and recorded for the board.Pre-Recorded Statements: Establishing options for individuals who cannot attend physically or remotely to submit pre-recorded statements to be played during the sessions or sending in letters to be read at the board table publicly.Accountability, Order, and Regional Best Practices: Addressing concerns about potential misuse of live streaming or public forums by establishing clear, common-sense guidelines and behavioral standards. By exploring successful protocols from neighboring school districts, many of which balance robust public transparency with strict rules against personal attacks or disruptions, we can keep meetings constructive, safe, and focused squarely on students.
• What are your thoughts on the board and superintendent goals? What should be emphasized?:
In a district facing critical financial realities and declining enrollment, clear, measurable goals are more important than ever. Board and superintendent objectives must directly reflect our district's current needs and be anchored by concrete benchmarks. Without clear metrics, tracking trends and assessing our progress is guesswork. To drive actual achievement, we must establish transparent targets focused on core pillars:Academic & Programmatic Excellence: Prioritizing upward trends in graduation rates, reading comprehension, proficiency gap closures, etc. to ensure our schools are the first choice for local families.Operational & Financial Stability: Ensuring clear, accessible data regarding district operations, building capacity, and responsible resource allocation.Community Engagement & Communication: Moving beyond passive outreach by implementing concrete, measurable accountability metrics for how and when the district engages families and staff.Declining enrollment is not just an administrative footnote, it is the root driver behind our severe budget pressures and structural challenges. When we lose resident market share to open enrollment, charter schools, and other options, it directly impacts our classrooms, staffing, and financial health.We cannot simply manage a shrinking footprint; we must actively research, analyze, and reverse the course of our enrollment. Board and superintendent goals must include intentional strategies to study why families leave, improve our capture rates, and restore community confidence so that Robbinsdale Area Schools are a magnet for families rather than a district they exit.
• How do you believe in building consensus as a leader? How will you work with constituents and colleagues who disagree with your viewpoints?:
Building consensus isn't about smoothing over differences or finding the lowest common denominator; it is about leaning into diverse perspectives to build stronger solutions. When community feedback conflicts with my initial analysis, I view it as a vital signal requiring deeper investigation rather than a contradiction to dismiss. By actively listening and pausing to understand the lived experiences behind the concerns, I look for the underlying values and operational impacts that numbers and internal reports often miss.Once I understand those perspectives, I cross-reference them with objective data, legal parameters, and district realities. Rather than letting conflict create friction, I use it as a starting point for constructive dialogue to examine whether my own analysis missed a blind spot or a crucial community impact. Crucially, if further research shows my initial take was wrong or that we need to adapt, I embrace that pivot without hesitation and proactively convey those findings back to the individuals who raised the challenge.Ultimately, bridging the divide between leadership and the community drives my work because I am deeply passionate about people, our staff, and our students. True leadership demands accountability, and when feedback and analysis clash, my commitment is to remain open, transparent, and anchored in what we can accomplish together.
